Ear – Otoplasty
Otoplasty or protruding ears surgery will correct the shape and position of the ear flaps. It is intended for patients who are not happy with the size and appearance of their ears. Sometimes this means correcting only one ear, if there is an asymmetry.
The symmetry of tightly glued ears that will be achieved, by reshaping the cartilage to ensure a natural size and appearance. It can be carried out on children, who wish it, from the age of seven years.
Operating procedure
The procedure is performed in the operating room under local anaesthetic, with sedation, on an outpatient basis. The incision, in a natural fold behind the ear, remains very discreet without a haircut. The operation lasts between 30–40 minutes.
Post Operation
An elastic bandage to be worn for 24 hours after the procedure and this will be replaced by a tennis head band for eight days. The pain is quite bearable, and the first results are visible immediately, although the ears can sometimes be swollen and show some bruising.
But to appreciate the final result, it will take between 1–2 months, depending on the rate of healing of the patient. For a month, physical or sports activities with risk of contact must be avoided. At first, the ears will be sensitive to extreme cold.
